The heart of the Christian community is our Triune Lord: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Geography, history, and numbers are not the heart, but probably I will type mostly on these topics. As the internet already provides many encouraging spiritual guides and discouraging contentious forums, I intend to offer neither.

Our Lady of Good Counsel, Inwood

Our Lady of Good Counsel church is at the corner of Wanser Avenue and Church Street in Inwood, Long Island, about a half-mile east of Far Rockaway, Queens.  The mailing address is 68 Wanser Avenue, Inwood, NY 11096, telephone 516-239-0953. Inwood (not to be confused with Inwood, northern Manhattan) is in Nassau County. The above Mass schedule was photographed in March, 2012.
In April, 2011, the Long Island Catholic reported that the three parishes of St. Joseph (Hewlett), St. Joachim (Cedarhurst), and Our Lady of Good Counsel (Inwood) would be placed in some sort of unified care without being merged.  In December, 2011, the Long Island Catholic reported that Father Moriarty, pastor of St. Joseph, would also be administrator of Our Lady of Good Counsel. "The parishes of St. Joseph, Hewlett, St. Joachim, Cedarhurst, and Our Lady of Good Counsel, Inwood, will work together to provide pastoral services."
When the parish was established in 1910, the congregation was mostly Italian.  The devotion to Mary under the title Madonna del Buon Consilio arose in Genazzano, some thirty miles south of Rome, in the fifteenth century.

The bell dates from 1910.  To read the inscription, please click on the photo.

This statue honors Padre Pio.

Crossroads School for Children uses the former parish school on Henry Street.
Bus Q113 from Jamaica stops at the corner, and the Lawrence railroad station is nearby.
