Lord

The heart of the Christian community is our Triune Lord: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Geography, history, and numbers are not the heart, but probably I will type mostly on these topics. As the internet already provides many encouraging spiritual guides and discouraging contentious forums, I intend to offer neither.

Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Point Lookout

In Point Lookout, the church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal faces south.  To the right is Parkside Drive, which travels north only about 50 yards to the only traffic signal in the hamlet of Point Lookout. The address is 75 Parkside Drive, Post Office Box 20, Point Lookout, NY 11569, telephone 516-431-2772.  The parish website is linked here.
----
If the above description of the streets is not clear, let me rephrase it.  All traffic enters the small community of Point Lookout eastbound.  At the first and only traffic signal, turn right onto Parkside Drive.  You will soon see the church.

This parish is one of three parishes sponsoring Long Beach Catholic Regional School, six miles west.
----
There are two parishes in the Diocese of Rockville Centre under the patronage of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.  In 1936, the OLMM parish in Wyandanch, Suffolk County, was established, followed the next year by the establishment of this OLMM parish in Point Lookout.

Point Lookout has a population of about 1,500.

St. Mary of the Isle, Long Beach

The parish of St. Mary of the Isle stands on the south side of East Park Avenue at Monroe Boulevard, Long Beach, New York, three blocks east of the Long Beach railroad station and the city center.  This view shows the church, the parish center to the right, and the rectory at 315 East Walnut Street, Long Beach, NY 11561, telephone 516-432-0157.  The parish website is liked here.

Founded in 1918, this parish is the oldest of the three parishes on the barrier reef that runs ten miles from Point Lookout on the east to Silver Point on the west.  St. Mary of the Isle sponsors Long Beach Catholic Regional School.

The above photo was taken in 2012, before the hurricane Sandy damaged many buildings in Long Beach.  The photo below was taken in 2014, after repairs.

This is the night

Exsultet iam angelica turba!  Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven! Exsultent divina mysteria!  Exult, let angel ministers of God exult! Et pro tanti Regis victoria tuba insonet salutaris!  Let the trumpet of salvation sound aloud our mighty King's triumph!

(A magnificent poetic song, with elegance and paradox, originating somewhere between the fifth and seventh centuries.)

Any photo may be enlarged by clicking on it.  The above photo of the Mass schedule was taken in early April, 2012.

The church is to the left of the photographer.  The rectory is beyond the tree and along the entrance drive.  Jericho High School is in the distance.

Apparently, teams from Holy Trinity Diocesan High School, Hicksville, are among those using the three ball fields.
